An STD is a gift nobody wants. Most forms of BC don’t protect against STDs, so use a condom + another form of BC each time.

Candy, flowers, and cards are all sweet, but one surprise that no one wants to get is a sexually transmitted disease! When it comes to relationships or having sex, a lot of people think they can tell if their boyfriend or girlfriend has an STD. Unfortunately, many STDs won’t show symptoms for days, months or even years. That’s why it’s so important to be prepared and protect yourself every time you have sex.

Using a BC method that protects against STDs is one of the best things you can do to protect your sexual health. The BC methods that protect against STDs are:

  • External Condoms: Colors, flavors, textures…there are so many reasons to love the condom. Our personal favorite? Condoms protect against pregnancy AND STDs, and you don’t have to visit a clinic to get them! You can find them at gas stations, pharmacies, or even some vending machines.
  • Internal Condoms: If you’re allergic to latex but still want protection against STDs, consider using a female condom. Female condoms can be inserted into your vagina up to 8 hours before having sex and they are easy to find at drugstores or local clinics! Just make sure not to use them with a male condom, because the friction of the two rubbing together can cause them to break.

Last but not least, to stay safe, it’s important to get tested at a local clinic and know your STD status. It’s quick and confidential! Knowledge is power, and knowing helps you make positive choices for your body in the future.
