Mid-summer blues with nothing to do? Peer pressure can be hard to avoid, but trusting your gut is always a smart choice

Peer Pressure, it only takes one to stop it. Image depicts dominoes knocking each other over, and one doesn't and stops the others from falling.

Not sure if something is the right thing to do? Trust your gut! Your instincts rarely steer you wrong. If you have a feeling in your stomach that something isn't right, you should probably avoid whatever situation is triggering that feeling. This is probably not the first time you've felt this way and it definitely won’t be the last. Don’t worry, your instincts aim to help save you from a lifetime of wrong turns.

More tips on avoiding peer pressure:

  • Don’t be afraid to walk away! While you might think others see walking away as a sign of weakness, it’s actually a symbol of strength. Walking away will show your peers you are willing to walk your own path regardless of the “Naysayers” who are too afraid to do the same. They will respect you for this.
  • Words are powerful but so are you! Yes words are powerful, and so is the pressure of fitting in. Don’t let words pressure you into situations that you already know you’re going to regret. Remember words are powerful but you are stronger than words.
  • You’re not alone! Feeling alone is one of the main reasons you might fall victim to peer pressure. Maybe you feel that no one understands what you’re going through. Remember, you aren't alone. It can help to talk with a trusted adult or family member about what you’re going through. You'll likely find out they were in your shoes when they were your age, and you'll be inspired to walk your own path!
