Hookup tip by Carolina and Lauren
It's not exactly fun to worry about an unintended pregnancy or the possibilty of contracting an STD - so remember this feeling and be sure to use a condom (you can get them for FREE here) AND another form of birth control the next time you have sex.
Prevent an Unintended Pregnancy:
However, you can still be proactive and prevent an unintended pregnancy by taking Emergency Contraception (EC.) EC is a pill you can take if you’ve had unprotected sex. It is a hormone pill that prevents the release of an egg. It does not cause abortion. It can be taken up to 5 days after you have had unprotected sex, but the sooner you take it the more effective it is. If you are already pregnant, it does not change anything or hurt the pregnancy in any way.
So how do you get EC? No matter how old you are, you can buy certain brands of EC over the counter - WITHOUT A PRESCRIPTION - at drugstores. You can also get EC at family planning centers like Planned Parenthood.
Get Tested for STDs:
If you had unprotected sex, you should get tested for STDs. If you are 12 or older, getting tested is easy, not scary, affordable, and confidential. Remember, the most common symptom for many STDs is no symptom at all, so it's best to get tested and be safe rather than sorry!
And remember, next time, avoid all this extra work by having safer sex - it's the best sex!
