Feel like you’re in an abusive relationship & don’t know what to do?

Loving someone shouldn’t hurt.

Unfortunately, there are many teens that are trapped in abusive and unhealthy relationships, and the worst part is that they may not be fully aware of it. You may be wondering, “How do I know if I am in an abusive relationship?”  There are many warning signs that you should look out for.  The sooner you recognize these warning signs the better, because the longer you stay with an abusive partner, the harder it will be to leave them.

Warning Signs of an Abusive Significant Other:

  1. Accuses me of flirting or cheating when I’m not
  2. Constantly checks up on me or makes me check-in
  3. Breaks or throws things when we fight
  4. Tries to control what I do, who I see, what I wear, how I look, or who I talk to
  5. Makes me feel like no one else would want me
  6. Is always asking me for money or making me pay for everything every time we go out
  7. Threatens to hurt themselves, me, my friends, or family
  8. Yells, screams or humiliates me in front of other people
  9. Makes me feel nervous, or like “I’m walking on eggshells”
  10. Doesn’t let me spend time with my friends, or gets mad when I do

Although disagreements exist in all relationships, they shouldn’t make you feel like your happiness and safety are at risk.  Please love yourself enough to walk away from an abusive relationship.  Learn how to do so here.
