For our last blog of the decade, we thought we would take a look back to see what you and other teens were interested in over the last ten years. We pulled our top three blogs of the decade and our top three tips of 2019! Take a look at what was clicked on!
Top 3 Blogs of the Decade:
#1 Our top blog of the decade, “Buying Condoms or Finding Them for Free is Easy,” (2018) shares tips for buying condoms at a store or finding them for free at a clinic near you. Remember, anyone of any age can buy condoms and you can always find ways to get free condoms on TeenSource!
#2 Our second most popular blog of the decade, this time from 2011, talks about emergency contraception. The title says it all! “Condom broke? Emergency contraception can prevent pregnancy if taken w/in 5 days -- ASAP is best.” If a condom breaks or for another reason you had unprotected sex, emergency contraception will prevent pregnancy AFTER sex. Emergency contraception (or EC for short) is best if taken as soon as possible but some types can be taken up to five days after unprotected sex. Learn more about EC and if you’re looking to have some on hand, just in case, here’s how to find a clinic near you!
#3 “U can get herpes, warts w/o sex: just rubbing genitals w/ some1 can spread em” was our third most popular blog of the decade and also published in 2011. Herpes can be spread through skin-to-skin contact as well as through sex. The herpes virus causes warts and is not curable, but the warts are treatable with medication. Abstinence is the best way to protect against herpes. Condoms can help reduce the risk of getting herpes, but they’re not 100% effective.
Top 3 tips of the year
Our top three tips of the year are all about condoms!
Our top tip for 2019 was last week’s tip, “Time for Winter Crafts!” where we offered some suggestions for what you can do with expired condoms. Remember, it is not recommended to use condoms for sex after their expiration date, so check out our ideas to recycle them! If your condoms have expired, find them for free near you!
“Condom Myths Busted!” was our second most popular tip of 2019. Check out this blog to learn more about some common condom myths.
Our third most popular tip for this year was “3 Facts to raise condom awareness during national condom week” and covers your rights to buy condoms, access them for free, and learn about condoms in sex ed.
