Condom broke? Didnt use one? Think fast! Emergency contraception prevents pregnancy for up to 72 hours.

Condoms and birth control are great ways to protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy if used correctly, but sometimes things happen! Thankfully, there is a solution if your chosen method of birth control has failed - emergency contraception (EC).

  • EC is highly effective in preventing pregnancy if taken 72 hours after sex- the sooner you take it, the better!
  • Check with your local clinic to see if they have free/low cost Emergency Contraception.
  • If you are 17 or older, you can get emergency contraception at your local pharmacy without any prescription. If you feel uncomfortable going alone, bring a friend or group for support. They may be helpful when you take the pill as it can sometimes cause mild dizziness or nausea.
  • Get your facts straight! Know what EC does - for example it CAN prevent pregnancy but DOES NOT cause an abortion.
  • If you can afford it, get extra emergency contraception. Whether it is you or a friend who will eventually need it, nothing reduces the stress of a potential pregnancy like being prepared!

If you are under 17 or don’t know who to talk to about getting Emergency contraception, visit your local clinic for help.
