Emergency Contraceptive Pills

Hormonal Methods

Hormonal methods work in different ways depending on the method being used. The two main ways that hormonal methods prevent pregnancy are:

Emergency Contraception

What can be done to prevent pregnancy if a condom breaks, you don’t use a regular method of birth control correctly, you have sex without using any method of birth control, or someone has forced you to have sex? You can take Emergency Contraceptive Pills (ECPs).

Condom Broke? Have You Heard of Emergency Contraception?

Emergency Contraception (EC), also called the Morning-after Pill or Plan B, prevents pregnancy after sex. You can use EC right away - or up to five days after sex - if your condom broke, you didn't use birth control, etc.  If you are 18 or over, you can get EC over-the-counter but you will need a prescription if you are a female under 17.
