Rihanna's Interview with Diane Sawyer was Courageous

It's been one week after Rihanna’s interview with Diane Sawyer and I am still processing everything she said. Not only do I feel that she is very courageous for speaking out because the vast majority of women who do experience such violence are not empowered to fight back, she also brought up so many things that are often overlooked when analyzing domestic violence. One of the major themes she spoke about was her conflicted feelings for Chris.

The Age of Nudie SMS & Emails

I know it’s temping: you just started dating that “special someone” and it’s important to show them the flirtatious, sexy, possibly even adventurous side of your personality. You experiment with different angles and without consequence send the best scantily-clad shot to your cutie via text message, email, whatever.

I Cannot Transform Chris Brown

Here is my confession- I love Chris Brown’s Transform Ya song. I can’t get it out of my head. I love the beat, the lyrics are slightly creative, and best of all I can dance to this song in my car! But, my issue with this song is not the song itself, but rather the performer.

Lady GaGa’s Sexy Look ‘Kills’ a Man!

It seems bizarreness follows Lady GaGa wherever she goes and this week is no different. As GaGa entered the ACE Awards Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in NYC on Monday, the pop diva had no idea what her presence could incite. According to the New York Examiner, when Lady Gaga arrived at the red carpet, a celebrity photographer suffered a heart attack on a ladder and fell into the crowd. He was then rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. What do you think of the outfit?

I Do Something

In my most recent post, I wrote about the brutalization of a 15 year old girl at Richmond High, and how angry and frustrated I felt. Despite my own desire for vigilante justice against the rapists, I want to focus on the message the family of survivor gave during a community meeting. The message called for restoring justice by community action to make sure this type of violence does not happen, rather than take bloody revenge against her attackers. Inspired by such admirable actions, I want to participate, but my question is how do you do that?

Another Blogger's Take on the Richmond Gang Rape

All weekend, various news stations featured the awful story of the young girl who was gang-raped at her homecoming. More troubling, is the fact that the incident happened so close to home at Richmond High School. Police believe that as many as 10 people ranging from 15 to mid-20s had attacked the girl for more than two hours in a dimly lit area, with more than two dozen others reportedly watching, laughing, and taking pictures.

Teensource Blogger's Thoughts on Richmond High Gang Rape

When I think about the incident at Richmond High, when a 15 girl was gang raped for hours while bystanders watched, I become upset for many reasons. I wonder why the boys felt like this would be an amusing thing to do to another human being. I wonder why the onlookers didn’t leave or call the police. I wonder why police were not patrolling all parts of the school for the two and a half hours after the dance. I wonder why the school chose to send home the security guards early (actually I know the reason, the school could not afford to pay them overtime.

Obama to lift HIV/AIDS travel ban

Did you know that the United States is one of only a dozen countries that still bar the entry of people with HIV?

Last Friday, President Obama announced that he will lift the 22-year-old ban on entry into the United States for people infected with HIV/AIDS .

"We talk about reducing the stigma of this disease, yet we've treated a visitor living with it as a threat," he said at the White House. "If we want to be the global leader in combating HIV/AIDS, we need to act like it."—President Obama
