Say it with me, “Masturbation!” Yes! Most people do it — yet so many people worry about doing it! That's because there’s a lot of myths out there that masturbation is dirty, dangerous, or something to be embarrassed about doing. But the truth is:

Masturbation is safe and healthy.
People of all ages do it.
Guys do it, and girls do it too.
Single people and people in relationships do it.
Some people do it a few times a day, and some do it a few times a year.

Transgender Day of Remembrance 2009

I’m a big believer in fate, coincidence, serendipity- whatever you want to call it. After wandering around San Francisco for hours, my lovely date and I decided to complete our journey by heading over to my favorite pizza place, in the heart of the Castro neighborhood. The Castro, for those of you who do not know, is widely known for being the Gay Mecca, a meeting ground for Gay, Lesbian, Bi, Trans, and beyond folk to socialize in a queer friendly environment. This area of the city has been a hotbed of political activity for promotion of queer rights and freedoms.

Herpes Help

During college, I worked as an assistant in the student health center, and I served as an executive board member of our peer health education group Student Advocates for Educating Women (SAFE Women for short). Since my campus was super small, and I was known for being an easy person to speak with, girls would often come up to me and ask: would you look at this?, and then try to show me some part of their body that I was not ready to see.

Rihanna's Interview with Diane Sawyer was Courageous

It's been one week after Rihanna’s interview with Diane Sawyer and I am still processing everything she said. Not only do I feel that she is very courageous for speaking out because the vast majority of women who do experience such violence are not empowered to fight back, she also brought up so many things that are often overlooked when analyzing domestic violence. One of the major themes she spoke about was her conflicted feelings for Chris. She spoke of how she and Chris became obsessed with each other and obsessed with being in love- remember they were only 18 years old or so when they first met, and that obsessive blind love became dangerous for them.

I Cannot Transform Chris Brown

Here is my confession- I love Chris Brown’s Transform Ya song. I can’t get it out of my head. I love the beat, the lyrics are slightly creative, and best of all I can dance to this song in my car! But, my issue with this song is not the song itself, but rather the performer.

I Do Something

In my most recent post, I wrote about the brutalization of a 15 year old girl at Richmond High, and how angry and frustrated I felt. Despite my own desire for vigilante justice against the rapists, I want to focus on the message the family of survivor gave during a community meeting. The message called for restoring justice by community action to make sure this type of violence does not happen, rather than take bloody revenge against her attackers. Inspired by such admirable actions, I want to participate, but my question is how do you do that?

Teensource Blogger's Thoughts on Richmond High Gang Rape

When I think about the incident at Richmond High, when a 15 girl was gang raped for hours while bystanders watched, I become upset for many reasons. I wonder why the boys felt like this would be an amusing thing to do to another human being. I wonder why the onlookers didn’t leave or call the police. I wonder why police were not patrolling all parts of the school for the two and a half hours after the dance. I wonder why the school chose to send home the security guards early (actually I know the reason, the school could not afford to pay them overtime.

The Halloween Dilemma

With Halloween quickly approaching, I explored the local costume stores to figure out my options. I never realized how many there are! I can be a sexy cop, a sexy Ghostbuster, a sexy Alice in Wonderland-- even a sexy gargoyle! Depending on how much money I want to spend on an outfit I will wear only one night, the possibilities are as boundless as the amount of bad taste that inspired them: Hot border patrol cop, a sexy slave princess, even the beloved candy corn treat had a sexy makeover.

Be Weary of Stats When it Comes from a Product Company

A recent study about women, alcohol and sex has been making a lot of noise on the blog and news circuit. The statistics are shocking, with such sound bites as: “75 per cent of women liked to drink before getting into bed with their husband or boyfriend, and 6 per cent had never had sex sober” among others. The lead researcher on this, Kathryn Lakeland, said the results demonstrated that women lacked confidence when it comes to getting down.

Oct is Sex Ed Month of Action

October is Sex Ed Month of Action and the research is in: it is absolutely conclusive that abstinence only education programs not only do not work, but instead put youth at higher risk for STD transmission and unwanted pregnancies. Despite the 1.5 billion dollars paid out to school based programs that promoted total abstinence as the only appropriate action for teenagers, research has shown that such programs do not really delay sexual activity for most teens, nor do they lead to lower teenage pregnancy or STD rates.
