Studies Examine Risky Teen Disclosures on MySpace

In this study, an email was sent from a doctor to see to what effect this could have on the kind of information a MySpace user might reveal on their profile. The researchers chose 190 publicly available MySpace profiles from a specific zip code (self reported ages 18-20) and evaluated them for references to sex and drug use. Then, half the profiles were sent an email from Dr. Meg. After three months re-examined the profiles to look at how the profiles had been changed in terms of the number of drug or sex references and how many people had changed their profile from public to private.

Cheerleaders Suspended from Team for Nude Photos - Parents Sue

The parents of two Bothell High School cheerleaders are suing the district for kicking the girls off the team after nude text messages of them circulated. The two teens were suspended from the Bothell High cheerleading squad after the school discovered the photos. The two cheerleaders were punished, but football players and other students at the school who sent or received the texts were not, which has greatly upset the families of the two girls.

Watching More Sex on TV Linked to Pregnancy

According to a study, teens who watch a lot of TV shows with sexual content are more than twice as likely to be involved in a pregnancy. Two thousand adolescents nationwide ages 12 to 17, were surveyed about their television watching habits and sexual behavior. The researchers surveyed the same teens 3 years later.
