Guttmacher Study Challenges Perception Teens Substitute Oral Sex For Intercourse To Stay Virgins

Most teenagers who engage in oral sex also are having vaginal intercourse, according to a Guttmacher Institute report.  The findings of the study suggest that the popular perception that teens are engaging in serial oral sex as a strategy to avoid vaginal intercourse is a misperception.

Condom Broke? Have You Heard of Emergency Contraception?

Emergency Contraception (EC), also called the Morning-after Pill or Plan B, prevents pregnancy after sex. You can use EC right away - or up to five days after sex - if your condom broke, you didn't use birth control, etc.  If you are 18 or over, you can get EC over-the-counter but you will need a prescription if you are a female under 17. 

California's Teen Birth Rate Sees First Jump in 15 Years

In 2006, the birth rate of teens in California increased for the first time in 15 years. California's teen birth rate is still below the national average of 41.9 births per 1,000 teens in 2006. The number of births to teens started increasing in 2004. Teen health experts said possible reasons for the increase can be linked to higher poverty rates in California and a growing teenaged population.

TeenSource.org announces Condom Art Contest

The California Family Health Council announces the launch of the 2008 Condom Art Contest. This statewide contest aims to increase public awareness about Sexually Transmitted Diseases and correct condom use. This is a public art contest, open to residents of California between the ages of 13 and 25.  Selected entries will be printed in full color on condom packets and widely distributed!
