Wait, WHERE did you hear that?? How YOU get your info on Sex, Relationships, & Health!

Where do you get your info on sex/relationships/dating/birth control/STIs/etc…?

The Guttmacher Institute (the big-time experts on all things reproductive health) has published a new report on where teens get their Sex Information. Not too surprisingly, family and school top the list, with friends coming in as a third choice… the first two are viewed as more trustworthy, while friends are seen as a little less, shall we say, totally spot on. Between “The Talk” with your parents and the (better or worse) sex ed that we all supposedly get in school, it makes sense that most of our basic info comes from those two sources.

What surprised me, though, is how little teens in the qualitative study done by Rachel K. Jones seemed to get their info from the internet (or admitted to it) – after all, when those tricky terms come up that no one wants to ask their parents or teachers (or even friends) about – like “dildo” “fellatio” and really – the truth – can you get pregnant in a hot tub??? – the internet can definitely supply answers. Not always correct, but we’ve all looked up a thing or two, and then used our best B.S. radar to decide whether it’s true, or true enough.

So for those of you who have unanswered questions from the Top Three Sex Info Sources, let’s get a couple good sources out there that are full of anatomically, physiologically, and all the other ways of being factual:

and of course… www.teensource.org and all the great teen clinics we can point you towards in California!
